FIFPro, which sits on Fifa committees, is a worldwide representative organization for all professional football players and has about 60 000 affiliates.

The former Dynamos ace was accompanied to the European country by the union’s secretary general Paul Gundani.

FUZ finance and administrator manager Marlene Gadzirayi confirmed the trip. “They left on Sunday night for the official opening of the Fifpro house,” said Gadzirayi yesterday.

“The rest of the week will see the two having high profile meetings with the FIFPro leadership including FIFPro secretary general Theo Seggelen, and FIFPro Africa Division secretary general Stephane Burchkalter. High on the agenda is the oppression and manipulation of African players.”

FUZ has been giving advice to local players who were implicated in the Asiagate match fixing scandal.

“We have sent reports to FIFPro concerning the way the Asiagate case was handled. Maringwa and Gundani will have meetings with the FIFPro officials to collaborate everything,” she added.

Zimbabwe is one of the six countries who are still on the FIFPro candidate members list and Maringwa is set to use this week’s meetings to convince the organisation to accord his union full membership status.
