After joining the club 12 years ago, Lampard has gone on to become the third-highest appearance maker at the club and their all-time top goalscorer.

In January, the club said that they were not going to offer the midfielder a new contract despite another impressive season from the 34-year-old. However less than 24-hours after Lampard helped guide them to UEFA Europa League glory over Benfica, it has been confirmed that he has signed a one-year extension.

“Frank has been an important player for Chelsea Football Club for a long time and has played a significant part in the club’s success,” chief executive Ron Gourlay told the club’s official website. We have been talking to him since the end of last year and our discussions have been entirely positive throughout.

“We are delighted we are now announcing an extension to his contract which will keep him at the club until 2014.”

During his career at Stamford Bridge, Lampard has picked up plenty of silverware. He has won UEFA Champions League, the Premier League title on three occasions, the FA Cup four times, the League Cup twice as well as the UEFA Europa League.
