FAST-RISING musician Jah Prayzah (real name Mukudzei Mukombe) has distanced himself from any wrongdoing on his recent United Kingdom tour where he suffered gross organisational setbacks.

His show in Leicester turned chaotic when promoters brought the PA system late. Angry fans threatened to beat up Jah Prayzah who came on stage after midnight. The musician, who returned home on Wednesday evening, said he did what was required, but the promoters failed to meet their end of the bargain. “It was sad to see the agitation of the fans, but there was nothing I could do as they (promoters) only managed to secure a PA system around midnight,” said the musician. Diamond Studios, the promoters of the tour, have since issued a public apology for the chaos. Steady Munyanyi of Diamond Studios noted: “The show started late due to some technical issues which we have now taken care of.” Jah Prayzah, however, said he was overwhelmed with the response that his new offering Tsviriyo is receiving in the UK. “I was shocked to be honest,” he said. “The album is making waves and I would like to thank the fans in that part of the world for the great support.” He urged promoters of international tours to make enough groundwork to avoid soiling artistes’ names. Similar disturbances occurred during Alick Macheso’s tour of South Africa last year when fans stormed into the venue due to poor security. Meanwhile, Jah Prayzah is expected to kick-start his local performances after the tour tonight with a gig at New Life Nite Club in Budiriro where he has promised fireworks. Budiriro is one of the suburbs where Jah Prayzah made waves as a young performer entertaining mainly schoolchildren at variety shows. He had a tough time breaking into the mainstream, but with the help of fellow musicians who played in small venues in the area, he managed attract attention gradually.
