The 39-year-old porter at Mbare Musika, whose tenure expires around June, bemoaned the lack of sponsorship adding that he did not benefit much from his ugly looks. “I expected my life to change for the better as this takes a brave person to get to the stage and display such ugliness,” said Masvinu.

Masvinu, who is also a well-known Dynamos Football Club fan, made headlines in May last year after he was crowned Mr Ugly Harare at a pageant that was founded two years ago by comedian cum dancer David Machowa aka Apama.

As his winning prize, the stout Masvinu received $100 and a free night in a plush hotel in the capital.

“It is just disappointing that my tenure is about to expire without realising anything,” he said.

Meanwhile, the pageant which is expected to roll into its third edition hangs in the balance as organizers recently bemoaned lack of sponsorship.

Apama said: “I am running around to get sponsorship and put things in order. I understand that the nation is waiting for the third edition of Mr Ugly and all I can say is that the pageant will be on as soon as funds have been raised.”
