Tinotenda Chanakira made sure that Zimbabwe drew first blood in the three-match series when he made an easy job of Kenya’s 17-year-old Ibrahim Kibet Yego beating him 6-1, 6-1 to put Zimbabwe 1-0 up. Zimbabwe ensured the singles victory when Mark Fyn comfortably beat Mohammed Fazal Khan 6-2, 6-3.

The third match will be a doubles match between the two nations with the duo of Fyn and Takanyi Garanganga up against the Kenyan pair of Yego and Kevin Cheyuirot Langat.

Zimbabwe were drawn in the same group as Kenya and Ghana. They play Ghana today.

Zimbabwe and Kenya have clashed three times before in the Davis Cup with Zimbabwe emerging as victors twice, while Kenya have only managed to win once in the encounters. Zimbabwe won the last clash 3-0 in 2011 in Egypt.
