Caps goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube produced a top-drawer performance for the Green Machine before they got the much-needed winner nine minutes from time.

Joseph Mutambiranwa scored the winning goal in the 81st minute from outside the box with a blistering shot that beat Triangle goalkeeper Brighton Chipula to silence the home crowd.

Mutambiranwa had come in for Leonard Fiyado in the 73rd minute.

Caps assistant coach Brenna Msiska was happy with collecting maximum points.

“Triangle played very well and it’s very unfortunate that they lost the match after failing to score from the many opportunities they created.

“I am also happy with the attitude of my players since we are on a rebuilding exercise and we managed to get maximum points away from home. We had one chance in the second half and we scored.”

Gishon Ntini, the Triangle coach, said: “We dominated the match from the start to the end, but we failed to score. The game of football is very cruel.”

Chipula was later involved in a scuffle after he punched an irate fan on the mouth at the final whistle.

This reporter witnessed the incident which started after the fans accused the Triangle goalkeeper of letting the team down.

Police, who were distant from the events, did not see the boxing action, eventually separated the pair before Triangle assistant coach Lovemore Dzoro dragged the goalkeeper to the dressing rooms.

Action started in the 17th minute when Richard Kawondera set up Tichaona Chipunza, who let go a shot that was punched back into play by Caps United goalkeeper Dube, and six minutes later Kawondera was denied by the goalkeeper.

A minute later, Dube was back in action tipping over the bar Nhamo’s free kick from outside the box as pressure mounted on the visitors.

On the hour, Nhamo was back in search for the opener again and watched in agony as his shot came off the cross bar with Dube beaten.

The rebound fell to Blessing Maziwisa, but Dube smothered the effort to keep Caps United in the match.
