POPULAR afro-jazz musician Majahawodwa “Jeys Marabini” Ndlovu has organised a music feté dubbed “Bulawayo Comes Alive Music Festival” that is set to attract more than 40 bands from the southern region.

The festival will be held at Masina Sports Garden on May 24.

Jeys told NewsDay yesterday that the aim of the festival was to “afford an opportunity to musicians in the southern region to showcase their talent”.

“National events such as musical galas have continued to sideline most musicians from the south-western parts of the country as they get little recognition in these events or given little time to play on stage,” said Jeys.

He said the venue, that is located in the high-density suburbs, was also deliberately chosen so that “as many people as possible could see their favourite musicians on stage”.

Musicians and groups such as Chase Skuza, Obadiah Matulana, Black Umfolosi, Sandra Ndebele and Mokis Connection, among many others, would be on stage at the all-night event.

The festival was launched in 2007, but took a lull for five years “owing to the economic decline that affected the country”.

“In the near future, and with funds permitting, the festival is expected to host international acts from across the world,” said Jeys who has performed extensively in the Southern African region as well as in Europe.
