Chicken Inn will live to regret the number of chances they missed especially in the first half to give away a point to Buffaloes who had gone for three successive defeats in the league coming into this match.

Marshal Marima scored for the hosts as early as the seventh minute after he intercepted a back-pass by Buffaloes right-back Never Musvipa to bury his effort past an exposed goalkeeper Hope Bere. Three minutes into the second half, Chicken Inn central defender Guide Goddard made a long clearance which Tendai Ndoro capitalised on and outpaced the Buffaloes defenders, powering a first-time volley past Bere to register his seventh goal of the season. But it was the exciting physical play from the determined army side that carried the day as they fought back.

They played as a unit and staged continuous onslaughts on Chicken Inn, resulting in skipper Felix Chindungwe lunging on Roy Mwenga in the 81st minute inside the penalty box and an alert referee Hardly Ndazi pointed to the spot. Steven Sibanda then converted. Four minutes before the final whistle, Jacob Muzokomba unleashed a stinger past busy Njabulo Nyoni to level the scores.

Chicken Inn assistant coach Julius Ndlovu admitted his charges were wasteful.

“It is the name of the game. This is what happens when you waste chances. We are creating chances, but we are not utilising them and the strikers put a lot of burden on the defence,” Ndlovu said. Buffaloes coach Saul Chaminuka said: “When you are two down and you are in the twilight zone of the game, you expect to lose, but it was not over until it’s over today.”
