The school is set to be built by the Zimbabwe Parents of Handicapped Children Association in conjunction with the United States African Development Foundation.

Presently, the children are using rented facilities at Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home and it is hoped the new school will provide adequate space for the handicapped children.

Kingstone Hove, the project supervisor and agronomist, said the centre will have a children’s club, farm training programmes and sporting facilities.

“We really appreciate the support and help that we are receiving from both the parents and also members of the Emakhandeni community,” Hove said. “We wish they could continue to show love to the children.”

Parents of the handicapped children and members of the community are presently conducting farming projects on the site.

This project follows the Cowdray Park Drop in Community Centre for people living with HIV and Aids and orphans to be built by a local charity organisation, Nehemiah Aids Relief Project.
