ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial secretary for health and aspiring Chinhoyi urban MP Simba Kanzou says businessman-cum-politician Phillip Chiyangwa’s “megaphone politics” will not help him secure a ticket to represent the party in the constituency.

Kanzou said he believed he was in better stead to represent Zanu PF in the forthcoming polls than any other candidate, including Chiyangwa.

Chiyangwa has indicated his wish to represent Zanu PF in Chinhoyi urban, saying he was the best candidate if Zanu PF were to dislodge MDC-T from the constituency. But in an interview with NewsDay yesterday, Kanzou said Chiyangwa’s “megaphone politics” was bringing him more enemies than friends from within the party and other quarters.

“If there is anyone who is most eligible to stand in this constituency to represent the revolutionary party, Zanu PF, it is me. I have a better political curriculum vitae (CV) than all other aspirants. Chiyangwa can do all he is doing because of his dollar-power, but to be honest, I am going to win the primaries,” Kanzou said, adding that he had in the past economically-empowered street vendors with various projects.

Kanzou, who refused to shed light on his campaign strategy, made the remarks ahead of yesterday’s provincial coordination committee meeting at Chinhoyi Training Centre that was scheduled to discuss Zanu PF’s proposed primary poll guidelines. Chiyangwa, a former MP for Chinhoyi, has at various platforms, boasted he had never lost an election in his life.

Kanzou, who is in the provincial top six most influential Zanu PF officials, said this ascension was history as “Chiyangwa has met his nemesis” in reference to himself.

Chiyangwa was this weekend on a whirlwind tour of the constituency where he addressed several meetings.

He has roped in church leaders to buttress his chances of winning.

Newly-introduced Chisora Burial Society, which is administered by a local funeral parlour with members paying $1 monthly subscription fees, is also one of Chiyangwa’s campaign strategies.

The businessman has, in recent months, stepped up his election campaign by making various donations in Chinhoyi where he is likely to contest Kanzou, Samuel Mvurume and Matthew Magureyi in the Zanu PF primaries expected soon.
