FORMER Mnet East Africa Idols finalist Adiona Maboreke Chidzonga makes her debut appearance at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) tonight.

Report by Silence Charumbira

Collaborating with Nigerian funky jazzguitarist Kunle Ayo, Maboreke is probably one of the best contemporary voices in Zimbabwe today.

Her collaboration with Ayo should be a marvel to watch considering the Nigerian musician’s expertise he has exhibited during his numerous previous performances in the country.

Now married to former Big Brother Africa housemate Munyaradzi Chidzonga, the musician’s show will be at the Lays GlobalStage at 5pm.

This comes after the release of her debut video for the single I’m all woman, an emotional protest against gender-based violence.

In the video, Maboreke is portrayed as a distraught physically abused woman who is battered daily by her drunkard husband.

The husband, her real life husband Chidzonga aka Diamond Boy, beats her up and is depicted in the video as someone who cares only about his alcohol.

In defiance, Maboreke exhibits the traits in women which makes them stronger each time they are abused.

The mother of one appears on the video a woman drenched in abuse, but victoriouslywalks out of the marriage to end the battering.

Hifa, which started yesterday, runs until May 5.
