TWO Binga fishermen drowned after their canoe capsized in Lake Kariba last Thursday, police in Matabeleland North province said yesterday.

Report by Pamela Mhlanga

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Billie Dube said the incident occurred between Chilila and Twiiti fishing camps and identified the deceased as Sialundu Denes Ncube (54) of Magobo village under Chief Siabuwa and Ephraim Mpande (38) of Msenampongo village under Chief Sikalenge.

Police said the accident occurred after the two men hired Lovemore Tshuma (31) to assist them cross the lake and as they were in the middle of the lake, the canoe capsized.

“Ncube and Mpande ended up getting tired and drowned, but Tshuma managed to survive after he got assistance from two fishermen who took him to Chilila Fishing Camp where a report was made to Binga police who recovered the two bodies on March 29,” he said.
