JOHANNESBURG — South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) acting chief executive officer Cambridge Mokanyane has condemned the unsightly acts of violence which occurred during the goalless draw between Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows on Saturday.

An entertaining match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium turned ugly in the 33rd minute when referee Lwandile Mfiki was attacked by a supporter after showing Reneilwe Letsholonyane a red card.
Other sections of the crowd were then also seen throwing projectiles onto the field, a similar incident to what happened in the same stadium when Orlando Pirates played AmaZulu last week, leaving the PSL supremo seething over the sights.
“This is completely unacceptable in our football. It does not do us nor the image of our football any good when we have fans invading the pitch and others throwing objects,” Mokanyane said in a statement.
“We condemn this in the strongest possible terms. We will wait for a full report from both the match commissioner and the referee which will be forwarded to the League prosecutor.”
Mokanyane added his praise for the way the South African Police Service took control of the situation, adding: “The police have acted swiftly and have apprehended the suspect. We applaud this move.”
The incident is now in the hands of the prosecutor, with the PSL set to take their own action after the police investigation.
