Independent veteran athlete Michael Ngaaseke won the competition in three hours 16 minutes and 42 seconds to collect the first prize of $600.

Harare’s Monica Kativhu took the honours in the women’s section in five hours four minutes and 51 seconds.

“The competition was a huge success because we got athletes from many places including Harare, Mutare and Redcliff. The response from athletes was beyond what we expected. We look forward to sponsoring the event in future.

“The winner (Ngaaseke) got a good time of three hours 16 minutes and 42 seconds although it was not one of the fastest times registered in the competition in the past,” Reena Doolabh one of the organisers, said.

Bulawayo Athletics Board chairman Manuel Mpofu said: “We are hoping that our relationship with PPC Zimbabwe will grow to greater heights.

We are hoping that in future, the corporate world will also come out and sponsor different categories in this race so that it becomes more lucrative and attracts more local athletes and even international ones.”
