The carnival, which will be the first of its kind in Zimbabwe, will bring together various local rhumba groups in one night and these include BV Labien, Diamond Musica, Royal Court LaMusica and Best of All Musica.

The event is expected to lure local rhumba fans in a bid to revive the genre’s popularity.

“This idea came after we realised that local rhumba musicians were not getting the same mileage as their counterparts from other genres yet internationally, rhumba is a highly recognised genre,” said Las Vegas Sports Café spokesperson, Fungai Mugwagwa.

He said the event would mark a moment of great significance in the rhumba industry as it would bring together on one stage, in one day, all the biggest groups in the country.

Mugwagwa added that one of the carnival’s major aims was to unify the rhumba musicians to become one powerful industry which would also make it easier for them to draw large crowds.

“Rhumba has a different crowd from most of the other music genres that are popular locally so this event is about giving rhumba fans a fair share of entertainment like the others,” he said.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Best of All Musica leader Jack Mapanga said his group was going to give the fans the best of their latest offering titled Overdose.

He added that his group would also be giving an outstanding display of the latest rhumba dance currently making waves in the country called the “Google Dance”.

BV Labien Musica is also geared up for the festival.

“BV Labien is a big brand and we know the people know what to expect from us,” said band manager Eugene Muronzi.
