MARONDERA — As intra-party fighting continues within the MDC-T in Mashonaland East Province, the Welshman Ncube led MDC has reportedly embarked on a campaign to lure disgruntled and suspended members, in a move that could result in more defections from Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s party.

According to a well-placed source within the MDC-T in the province, the MDC is reported to have deployed two of its members, Amos Reza and one only identified as Chidodo, who are currently believed to be in “talks” with MDC-T activists.
Recently, Reza, a former MDC-T councillor and another Ward 6 councillor Chenjerai Chako from Chikomba West joined the MDC in protest over what they claimed to be Tsvangirai’s “dictatorial tendencies” and “loss of direction”.
Reza and Chako, who are said to have crossed the floor alongside half the district’s executive, allegedly met Ncube and senior party members in Chivhu before pledging their new allegiance.
The source revealed that the duo is targeting “powerful MDC-T members” in the province, among them Marondera mayor Farai Nyandoro.
The mayor reportedly held a meeting with Chidodo and Reza last week.
“Nyandoro met the duo of Chidodo and Reza last week at a restaurant in Ruwa where he was asked to join the MDC.

“The pair, travelling in an Isuzu double-cab, promised him and all those who will defect, heaven on earth. They even told Nyandoro that they were on a mission to talk to all suspended and disgruntled MDC-T activists to defect to their party and also revealed that they had infiltrated Chikomba district in Chivhu where they said they had won few people,” said the source.
Contacted for comment, Nyandoro could neither confirm nor deny meeting the two.
“I have the freedom to meet whoever I want anytime. However, I am not at liberty to comment on the issue and I am the only person who knows best about my political life. I know where I am coming from and where I am going,” he said.
MDC deputy spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi confirmed his party was on a mission to lure former MDC-T activists in Mashonaland East.
“I strongly confirm that we deployed some personnel in the province who are hot on the heels of powerful MDC-T activists who we want to defect to our party.
“It is an ongoing exercise and we are working day and night to strengthen our party structures and we can achieve this through demolishing those structures belonging to the MDC-T.
“We are leaving no stone unturned for we have all the ammunition and apparatus needed for these crusades so that we deliver and conquer the whole province,” he said.
Last week over 200 MDC-T supporters allegedly defected to the MDC in Bulawayo. Efforts to get a comment from Reza were fruitless.
