Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the arrest of Phillip Katedza over the murder of Ephraim Katedza (50).
Police said on Monday at around 0300hours the accused, who resides at Plot 14, Village 1, Nyarenda, Karoi, returned home from a beer-drink. Upon arrival, he woke up his uncle and demanded $40 which was payment for a bicycle he had sold him.
Ephraim reportedly promised to pay the debt later since he had no money, but Phillip would have none of it.
Accused then allegedly assaulted the now-deceased with open hands and he collapsed, bleeding profusely from the mouth and nose.
“Accused rendered first aid by pouring water on the now-deceased before dragging him into a bedroom hut where the two spent the night together,” said Mabgweazara, adding Ephraim died as a result of the assault.
The now-deceased’s son-in-law, Trust Chirovapasi (38), reported the matter to Karoi police who attended the scene and arrested accused.
