Malawi eye Warriors friendly

LILONGWE — The Flames of Malawi are eyeing an international friendly against the Warriors or any of the Cosafa teams next month ahead of the second round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in June.

Earlier, Flames caretaker coach Eddington Ng’onamo had proposed friendlies in Zimbabwe and Zambia before welcoming Namibia on June 5 and Kenya on June 12 in the Group F qualifiers.

But the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda told the Malawi Press that the Flames would only play one friendly match before facing Namibia who lost 1-0 to Malawi.

“We are looking at one of the Cosafa countries such as Zimbabwe, Zambia and Swaziland,” Nyirenda told the press, according to

Namibia are third on three points while Kenya anchor the table with two points. Malawi will conclude their group qualifiers with a trip to Nigeria in September.
