Chicken Inn can climb to the summit with a win. The match will be broadcast live on Supersport.
FC Platinum leads the race in the early stages of the season with nine points from three matches, while Chicken Inn are on third position with seven points.
Highlanders occupy second position with nine points, but have an inferior goal difference. The Bulawayo giants will have to wait until Saturday when they host Motor Action to catch up with the early pacesetters.
An interesting fact ahead of today’s match is that the previous clashes between the two teams since they were promoted into the top-flight league in 2011 have not produced a winner. All the four encounters have ended in draws.
FC Platinum coach Tenant Chilumba, who welcomed striker Donald Ngoma back from injury, said he was ready to roast Chicken Inn.
“We are on top of the log and we would want to collect maximum points again tomorrow (today),” Chilumba said yesterday.
“Ngoma is back at training and is ready for selection. It is going to be a very tough game because Chicken Inn are doing well. They are an organised side with a good coach and sponsorship. They performed beyond expectations last season and should be motivated for all their matches this season.”
Chicken Inn head coach Mandla Mpofu would be missing three key players in captain Felix Chidungwe, Thabani Goredema and Tendai Mukambi for this match through injury.
Mpofu thinks their absence would affect his team’s performance although he still expects to get maximum points.
“We have to be at our best if we are to come out with a positive result. We are ready for the match and we hope it will be exciting,” Mpofu said.
“We are expecting a tough match because we will be up against the team of the moment who have a 100% winning record,” he added.
FC Platinum will be looking up to Nelson Mazivisa to provide goals and inspiration.
The 2011-2012 season top goalscorer has already netted an incredible five times in three matches to top the goalscorers’ charts.
On the other hand, Chicken Inn have Tendai Ndoro to bank on. The speed merchant is the Gamecocks’ top goalscorer with two goals, including a stunner in a 1-1 draw against Dynamos last week.
FC Platinum got the new season off with a 2-1 win over Buffaloes, before thrashing league debutants How Mine 4-1 at Mandava on Easter Monday. Black Mambas were next on the guillotine, beaten 2-1 last Saturday.
Chicken Inn started their campaign with a win over Triangle, before holding Dynamos and then collected maximum points against newcomers Tripple B in their third match of the season.
