The Bulawayo Athletics Board will hold the ZITF Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile Challenge qualifiers at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane.

The Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) will hold the ZITF Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile Challenge qualifiers at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane tomorrow as the search for athletes to participate in the finals set for Bulawayo on April 27 continues.

Twenty four athletes have already qualified for this year’s finals which will see the winner getting $800 and a floating trophy. BAB chairman Manuel Mpofu confirmed to NewsDay Sport that the qualifiers wil be on tomorrow.

“We are taking the Four-Minute Mile Challenge qualifiers to Zvishavane for the first time on Friday (tomorrow). We are doing this because we want to get more athletes from many areas to take part in this competition and we are looking forward to surpassing last year’s number of athletes who took part in the final,” he said.

Mpofu said they will hold the last qualifiers for Bulawayo on April 18 during the Independence Day Celebrations at White City Stadium, Bulawayo.

Bulawayo Province held another qualifier soon after the Matopos 33-Miler Ultra-Marathon at National University of Science and Technology last Sunday.

So far Black Rhinos athlete Simbarashe Chikadaga has got the best time in this year’s qualifiers after he clocked four minutes 15,06 seconds in the race which has a qualifying time of four minutes 31 seconds.

The other qualifiers for the competition were held in Bulawayo, Rimuka (Kadoma), Ziscosteel and Harare.

Meanwhile, BAB will conduct a three-day athletics officiating course at Eveline High School from Monday.
