CASTLE Lager Premier League side Buffaloes recorded their first win of the season-and their biggest in the top flight — after defeating Hwange in a league match at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.

Since securing promotion into the PSL in 2011, the army side had never scored four goals, but yesterday they registered their first win in emphatic style.

Jacob Muzokomba opened the account for the soldiers in the first 20 seconds of the match before defender Farai Banda increased the lead for the army side from a free-kick in the sixth minute.

Hwange did not throw in the towel easily and they were duly rewarded three minutes later through veteran striker Gilbert Zulu who headed home Andrew Chuma’s pin point cross.

After the breather, Banda scored his second goal from an acute angle in the 56th minute to kill off the match, but former How Mine player Steven Sibanda put the final nail into the coffin after he added another goal for the soldiers in the 68th minute, benefiting from Banda’s cross.

Farai Vimisayi, who came in for Munyaradzi Mungadze in the second half, whipped in an inviting cross that was headed home by fellow substitute Nkosana Siwela in the 70th minute to reduce the arrears for Hwange.

The army side did well to preserve their lead as Hwange tried to penetrate the Saul Chaminuka-coached side in the last 20 minutes of the match.

Hwange head coach Nation Dube said they defended badly and believes that they need to improve on that area.

“We conceded silly goals because we did not defend well today (yesterday) and we need to improve in that area,” he said after the match. Chaminuka said he was very happy with the win. “It was a good game for us, but l am worried that we are continuing to make the same mistakes because we are always conceding silly goals, but anyway a win is a win,’’ he said.
