Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the incident that occurred at Jonhera village under Chief Zvimba, Kutama, at the weekend.

Police identified the deceased as Emma Murwira.

It is reported that on April 20 at around 1300hours, the now-deceased’s nine-year-old daughter Faith went to the family garden in search of her mother. Upon arrival, she discovered her mother’s lifeless body and dashed to the village where she informed her grandmother Esnath Masango.

Masango went to the scene and found that Murwira was already dead. A report was made to Kutama police who attended the scene and conveyed the body to Father O’Hea Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Police said they suspected foul play and investigations were in progress.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Karoi man drowned in Msuka Dam last week after diving into the water to fetch a wild duck he had shot using a catapult.

Police said the deceased Aaron Chiremo of Shambatungwe Farm, Karoi, was in the company of Owen Nyadzawo (32) on their way in search of a job at a nearby farm. Chiremo reportedly shot the fowl which fell into the water and he went in to collect it, but failed to swim resulting in him drowning.

Nyadzawo is said to have tried to rescue his colleague to no avail. The matter was reported to Karoi urban police who attended the scene, but could not immediately locate and retrieve the body. The police Sub Aqua unit was informed and retrieved the body hours later.
