‘Aliens’ to vote

KWEKWE — The MDC-T says once the new constitution was adopted, all government agents in charge of voter education and registration will go all systems out to register “aliens” to enable them to participate in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Report by Blessed Mhlanga

Newly-appointed MDC-T secretary for elections Sesel Zvidzai told NewsDay yesterday that “aliens” had been disenfranchised in previous polls as their names were not on the voters’ roll.

“A number of our brothers and sisters who have been denied their right to vote after some selfish politicians branded them aliens attempted to vote during the referendum and were turned away because we were still using the old constitution.

“Once the new constitution is adopted there needs to be a massive voter registration exercise to allow the so-called aliens to be on the voters’ roll,” he said.
Zvidzai said the MDC-T would fight to ensure that all

Zimbabweans enjoyed universal suffrage.

“We want all those people who have been publicly called ‘totemless’ and disfranchised from making political decisions in a country they contribute taxes to be allowed to be on the voters’ roll before elections can take place,” Zvidzai said.
