Instead, the party declared the two provincial liberation heroines. Ambuya Tangwena, who was 82, succumbed to respiratory complications at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare last Thursday while Ambuya Msipa (76) died of diabetes on Saturday evening in Gweru.

“They have been accorded liberation heroine status,” Zanu PF national spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said yesterday after the politburo meeting.

“Ambuya Msipa will be buried at the Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Gweru on Wednesday (tomorrow) and Ambuya Tangwena will be buried at the Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Manicaland on Thursday.”

This is despite recommendations by the Manicaland and Midlands provinces to have the two declared national heroines and buried at the national shrine in Harare.
