Matabeleland North provincial police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Eglon Nkala yesterday confirmed the incident, which occurred on April 25 between 1400hrs and 1700hrs at Pyabam village dam under Chief Yamupa in Binga.

“On April 25, epileptic Linnet Miyozi (17) from Lazarus Miyozi’s homestead went fishing alone at Pyabam dam,” he said.

Nkala said Linnet was last seen fishing on the other side of the dam by an 11-year-old boy Lovejoy Mudenda who was also fishing on the opposite side of the dam.

“When the boy was done with his fishing and was preparing to go back home he failed to see the now deceased on the opposite side,” he said.

“On his way home he then passed through the deceased’s homestead to check if she had arrived ealier before him.”

Nkala said when Mudenda discovered that Linnet was not at home, he informed her father Miyozi who immediately rushed to the dam and found the deceased’s body floating.

Nkala said Miyozi then proceeded to inform other villagers who went and retrieved the body from the dam.

A report was made to the police at Siabuwa.

Nkala urged the public who took care of people suffering from epilepsy to closely monitor them and not leave them unattended as epilepsy attacks could strike anytime.
