WAR veterans’ leader Jabulani Sibanda on Tuesday descended on Chinhoyi University of Technology where he delivered a public lecture laced with racist undertones and veiled threats of violence should Zanu PF lose the upcoming harmonised elections expected later this year.

Sibanda, who frequently quoted the Holy Bible throughout his speech, said President Robert Mugabe was “a man of God” who had been sent to deliver Zimbabweans to the biblical Canaan.
“Mugabe is a man of God who came to deliver Zimbabweans from a history of dependence on whites to independence. Mugabe’s way is the way of God. Stand firm behind Mugabe because the war in our country is now between God and Satan,” Sibanda said.
“God has one leader who is Mugabe and one party Zanu PF. These whites who have imposed sanctions on us have a tendency of dictating to us, but we won’t budge. I hate whites, I only like them when they are in their own countries. I am not a racist, but a realist.”
War veterans would not sit on their laurels and watch the country being “recolonised” by “(Prime Minister Morgan) Tsvangirai’s masters”, but would take up arms and defend the country’s sovereignty, Sibanda said.
He added that the ongoing Zanu PF-initiated indigenisation programme was designed to further champion black economic emancipation, consolidate the gains of the land redistribution programme and to reverse colonial imbalances.
During his three-hour-long address to students and Zanu PF supporters who were bussed to the venue, Sibanda also took aim at Tsvangirai, Zapu president Dumiso Dabengwa, Simba Makoni, the Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn founder, Deputy Premier Arthur Mutambara and National Constitutional Assembly leader Lovemore Madhuku, among others, likening them to the devil.

“Tsvangirai has sabotaged this country. He is an agent of the devil who is bent on confusing our graduates to become subjects of the devil. If we see anyone with an MDC-T party card, that person is a sellout and they deserve to be added to the unenviable list of the devil’s servants. Down with MDC-T, down with Tsvangirai,” chanted Sibanda, amid applause from the crowd.
Sibanda told the gathering that voting MDC-T in the watershed harmonised polls was “condemning God and a betrayal of Mugabe’s anti-slavery stance”.
The meeting was also attended by Mashonaland West governor Faber Chidarikire, Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Rangarirai Mushaurwa and Zanu PF parliamentary aspirant Temba Mliswa, among other senior provincial Zanu PF officials.
