Williams, who helped Tuskers win their third successive Logan Cup title last week, left for the Caribbean on Sunday together with spinners Ray Price, Graeme Cremer and all-rounder Timycen Maruma.

The four players replace in-form batsman Craig Ervine, Chamu Chibhabha and leg spinners Tinotenda Mutombodzi and Natsai Mushangwe.

While the four’s inclusion into the national squad ahead of the two Test matches is expected to boost the side, it is the surprise exclusion of Ervine from the Test squad which has raised some eyebrows. Ervine has been clearly Zimbabwe’s best batsman during the limited overs leg of the month-long tour, scoring 121 runs from the two ODIs and 49 runs from the two Twenty20 (T20)s.

The gifted 27-year-old left-hander who could have easily made the Test side, judging by his recent form, will, however, return home after the selectors left him out of the Test squad prior to the start of the tour.

Zimbabwe, yet to win a match during the ongoing tour after losing all three ODIs and the two T20s, will be hoping to redeem themselves in the two Test matches.

The national side will have a chance to acclimatise to the conditions in the West Indies by playing a three-day practise match against the Sagicor High Performance Centre team at Windward Park in Barbados, starting on Thursday.

The two teams will them clash in the opening Test at the Kensington Oval in Barbados starting next Tuesday before the second Test at Windsor Park in Dominica on March 20.
