JOHANNESBURG — Zimbabwean Rutendo Nyahora says her victory in the opening leg of the SPAR Women’s Challenge 10km series will not deter her focus as she looks to step on the podium at the Two Oceans Half-Marathon later this month.

Nyahora crossed the line in 33 minutes, 10 seconds in Cape Town on Sunday to finish 12 seconds clear of second-placed Mapaseka Makhanya. “It was unbelievable for me to win a big race which had top runners,” Nyahora said.

“It was my best win so far and a great start to the year, but now I have to stay focussed for the Two Oceans where my aim is to be in top three. I believe I’m ready for the race and feel that I can produce great results on the day.”

Last year she finished third behind Rene Kalmer and Irvette van Zyl in the Two Oceans 21km event, and she hoped for an improved performance.

“I believe I’m ready for the race and feel that I can produce great results on the day,” Nyahora added.

“I have been training really hard for this and I feel I will do well.”
