Cosmas Denny of Plot 11, Glens Farm, Mhangura, was initially sentenced to 12 years in jail before three were set aside for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
Prosecutor Tinashe Dzvore told the court that on February 15 at around 4pm, the accused acting in connivance with Tapiwa Mashiri, who is still at large, to steal two cattle from complainant Alpheo Mhondoro (48) of Plot 80, Fynland Farm, Chinhoyi.
They then drove the beasts to Glens Farm and placed them in Denny’s kraal.
Denny and Mashiri later drove the animals to Dihurst Farm where the accused told the farm’s foreman Biggie Gwashure that the beasts belonged to him and were up for sale.
Denny then sold the two beasts to a farmer, John Braat, who paid $700 cash which they shared.
The complainant made a follow up and positively identified his stolen cattle at Braat’s farm on March 7 and reported the matter at Murereka Police Station leading to the accused’s arrest and the recovery of the stolen beasts.
