ZIMBABWE golf legend Nick Price, the Internationals Presidents’ Cup captain, will meet with potential members of this year’s team on the sidelines of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at TPC Blue Monster in Miami, Florida, US, this week.

The meeting, according to Golf Channel, is expected to include about 10 or 12 potential international players, including South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen and Australian Adam Scott.

Two of Nick Price’s three assistants, Zimbabweans Mark McNulty and Tony Johnstone, are also expected to attend the meeting which is intended to familiarise potential members before the tournament at Muirfield Village in Dublin Ohio.

The Presidents’ Cup, which pits a 12-member golf team from the US against a line-up of international players from outside Europe, will be played during the first week of October.

Price is also expected to hold similar meetings at the US Open, the British Open and the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

The top-10 international players on the official world golf rankings on September 2 will earn a spot on the team and Price will make his two captain’s picks on September 4.

Zimbabwe’s Brendon De Jonge, who was one of the most consistent golfers on the PGA Tour last season, is tipped to make the Internationals team which is captained by his role model Price.

The Harare-born golfer will be hoping to continue his promising start on the PGA Tour this season when he tees off at the $8 750 000 WGC-Cadillac Championship at TPC Blue Monster in Miami, Florida, today.

De Jonge will go into the tournament on the back of a good record at the iconic TPC Blue Monster. He has been inside the top 15 in two of the last three years in Puerto Rico, including a tie for third in 2010.

Meanwhile, South Africa-based Zimbabwean golfer Ryan Cairns’ dream of playing at the prestigious British Open Championship ended in disappointment yesterday after finding the going tough at the Open Championship Final International Qualifier in South Africa.

The 29-year-old, who was vying for one of three places at golf’s oldest Major Championship, struggled at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club and could only manage to finish in a tie for 44th.
