However, MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora yesterday accused MDC leader Welshman Ncube of exhibiting “dictatorial tendencies”.

Addressing party members at Barham Green in Bulawayo on Saturday, Ncube said even before the original MDC split in 2005, Tsvangirai had proved difficult to work with.

“The reunification of the two MDCs is impossible,” Ncube said. “It is difficult because we cannot have leaders who are dictators like Tsvangirai. When the majority of party members agree on one thing, Tsvangirai says a different thing.”

Ncube blamed Tsvangirai for causing the infamous 2005 MDC split following a dispute over whether or not to contest senatorial elections.

“We don’t need MDC-T for us to defeat Zanu PF. The only party that has brought devolution of power in the constitution is the MDC which fought tirelessly for that to happen. Tsvangirai didn’t want devolution of power.”

But Mwonzora hit back: “It is a good thing that Zimbabweans know the truth that MDC is well known not for fighting Zanu PF, but for trying to fight Morgan Tsvangirai as a person and the MDC-T party.

“Although they accuse Tsvangirai of being a dictator, the truth is that Tsvangirai has never fired all his MPs from Parliament like Welshman Ncube who has fired almost all his elected MPs and remained with those who are not elected.”

Ncube has expelled from his party MPs perceived to be associated with the rival MDC-T formation.
