They were due to appear in court in Victoria Falls yesterday charged with holding an unsanctioned meeting.

MDC national spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube condemned the arrests saying police in the province were targetting their members.

Several MDC membership cards are said to have been confiscated by the police.

“Scores of our members have fallen victim to these arbitrary arrests and intimidation tactics since the year began and the MDC is convinced that these actions are well orchestrated to frustrate the determination of the people in the struggle for real change in this country,” Dube said.

“We condemn these barbaric acts by the police in Matabeleland North, in particular, who seem to have an addiction for harassing our members whose only fault is to co-exist peacefully with the rest of society.”
