This will take the number of teams in Bulawayo back to three after the relegation of Quelaton last season, meaning there will be Premiership football in the City of Kings every weekend.

Giants Highlanders will use their usual hunting ground Barbourfields Stadium, while Chicken Inn will be based at Luveve Stadium.

A tour of How Mine Stadium yesterday by NewsDay Sport revealed that while the team management believed the venue would be ready by the second half of the season, it might be another year before How Mine sees Premiership football.

That is if they survive relegation this year.

The gold miners vice-chairperson Alpha Matumbura said: “We will be using White City for our home games, while Barbourfields Stadium will be used for big matches — like when we play against Dynamos and Highlanders. This will be for the first half of the season, while we await the conclusion of the work on our home ground.”

The site looks nowhere near a football pitch and does not have dressing rooms and terraces.

“The field is still under construction as we have engaged contractors to do the turf. We are still a long way from finishing, but we are hoping that construction will be complete by mid-season,” Matumbura said.

How Mine has already paid for the use of White City.

“We have got the permission from BCC (Bulawayo City Council) to use White City as our home ground and we have already paid the security deposit which will allow us to use the ground for our home games,” Matumbura added.

According to the Premier Soccer League fixtures released last week, How Mine will host fellow debutants Tripple B before travelling to play Zvishavane outfit FC Platinum for their second fixture.

How Mine, coached by Philani Mabhena, have enlisted former Premiership players Gilbert Banda, Hebert Dick, Brighton Dube, Simon Njeleza, Ocean Mpofu, Khumbulani Banda, Menard Mupera, Thabani Moyo and Arnold Ndiweni.
