MASHONALAND Central Provincial Governor Martin Dinha and four members of the Zanu PF provincial committee were booed by music fans at the 21st February Movement gala in Glendale on Saturday night after they attempted to turn the event into a campaign rally.

Report by Tawanda Marwizi

Dinha and four provincial committee members including youth chairman Godfrey Tsenengamu stormed the podium soon after the gala kicked off, chanting Zanu PF slogans and denouncing the MDC-T.

Only a few revellers that were near the stage pumped their fists into the air while others, in open defiance, raised open palms in a gesture of their support for the MDC-T.

Tsenengamu, who was quick to pick the tension they had created, attempted in vain to calm the crowd by changing gospel musician Matthius Mhere’s song Chipositori into a Zanu PF jingle.

Gala organiser Retired Major Anyway Mutambudzi played down the issue saying people appreciated the role played by the officials in organising the rally.

“There was no attempt to make it a political rally, but actually the people hailed the officials for bringing the music and lots of entertainment to them,” he said.

Some of the artistes at the gala included Tryson and Sulumani Chimbetu, Nicholas Zakaria, Mercy Mutsvene, Jah Prayzah and Obvious Mutani.
