ACAPULCO — Rafael Nadal confirmed on Sunday he plans to take part in this week’s Indian Wells tournament, following his demolition of David Ferrer in the Mexico Open final.

Nadal was in sensational form against Ferrer, hammering the world No 4 6-0, 6-2 with the type of one-sided performance that has long been his trademark on clay courts.

It really was a sit-up-and-take-notice display from the former world No 1, who won the opening eight games against his compatriot. All areas of his game fired as he appeared to move around the court with comfort, totally outclassing Ferrer in Acapulco.

After a seven-month absence for a partially torn tendon in his knee, Nadal is attempting to remain extremely cautious in his comeback bid, which is why it was not certainty that he would head to Indian Wells — a hard-court event. However, the athletic left-hander believes he is ready.

“My knee responded well all week. My heart tells me I should continue competing, that I need to move on to the next tournament,” he said.

He will go there in strong form following wins at the Brazil Open and Mexico Open, in addition to a runners-up finish in Chile.
