Amakhosi director Cont Mhlanga yesterday said the poetry club season would run until the end of July.

“The season runs under the name Poetic Dreams,” he said. “Each week two poems selected by a judge will be entered for publication on a poetry CD to be launched in August after the 2013 poetry season comes to an end.”

Mhlanga said they would also hold workshops every Saturday, culminating in performances later in the day.

This weekend, upcoming poet Mkhululi Wabanengi with his collection titled Ncinda Lawe will battle it out with Samu Samu who will present her own collection entitled Izolo Lethu. Another poet called Prince “Mazilankatha” Ncube will present his Ukufa poems in a contest with rising spoken word star Believe “Gwekwerere” Masiiwa, who will present his collection titled Pasi Chigare.

“The guest of honour, popular poet Sithandazile Dube will perform at the end of the contest just before she announces her choice of two winning poems,” Mhlanga said.

“Admission and participation is free for aspiring poets and poetry lovers. It will also be an opportunity for upcoming instrumentalists to showcase their skills on stage.”

In November last year, Amakhosi launched a Plays on Sunday programme that has seen many theatre shows being staged.
