Zimbabwe’s sole glass manufacturer, Zimglass, has reportedly suspended four of its quality assurance supervisors following reports that they allowed delivery of substandard glass bottles to the company’s customers.

GWERU — Zimbabwe’s sole glass manufacturer, Zimglass, has reportedly suspended four of its quality assurance supervisors following reports that they allowed delivery of substandard glass bottles to the company’s customers.

Sources told NewsDay yesterday that the four were suspended without pay and benefits on January 25.

“Four supervisors from quality assurance were suspended late last month after substandard bottles were sent to our major customer,” said the source.

“Hearings are being conducted at the company to determine the fate of the employees.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the workers denied the charge. Said one of the affected workers in a report submitted to his bosses: “I am employed as a quality assurance supervisor at Zimglass . . . On the 25th January 2013 I was suspended from duty without pay and other benefits . . . in that I sent deformed bottles to the customer and failure to send good quality of bottles to the customer.

“It is my submission that I did not commit the alleged offences . . ., I do not send bottles to the customers and that is not part of my duty.” Zimglass managing director Jacob Dube could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print last night.
