FOLLOWING the recent qualification of the national women’s basketball team for the 2013 Afrobasket Women’s championship, local basketball is set for another boost as the country has been awarded the right to host the 2013 Afro Basket Zone VI Under-16 Championships in April.

FOLLOWING the recent qualification of the national women’s basketball team for the 2013 Afrobasket Women’s championship, local basketball is set for another boost as the country has been awarded the right to host the 2013 Afro Basket Zone VI Under-16 Championships in April.

The 2013 Afro Basket Zone 6 Under-16 that will bring together nine Southern African boys and girls teams will, take place in the capital from April 25 to May 3. Hosts Zimbabwe will be joined by South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.

The Basketball Union of Zimbabwe has appointed a local events and sports marketing consultancy, Zscore, the exclusive marketing and event management rights to ensure that the event is a success.

“Zscore will be the exclusive marketing and event management agency for all Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) activities for the year 2013 to 2014,” Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) president Addison Chiware said in a statement yesterday.

According to a statement released by BUZ yesterday, among other tasks, Zscore will do the following to ensure the success of the tournament: event management; marketing; acquisition of sponsors and their management thereof; media; communication and promotion; digital rights and TV negotiation; security and crowd management under the umbrella of public security and Zimbabwe police and the provision of expert consultancy services in volunteer management.

“As we enter one of the most inspirational sporting years of our generation, we have already started to capitalise on the unique opportunity, creating a long lasting sporting legacy for future generations in Zimbabwe and across Africa.

“We enjoy excellent working relations with governmental and non-governmental sports governing bodies in Africa, Middle East — Asia using our large network of professionals and partners,” said Peter Mawere the Zscore chief executive officer.

Zscore will also launch the first edition of Zimbabwe International Sports Expo 2013 (Zinse 2013), the 2013 Market Place, Zimbabwe Business Sports Directory and Zscore Active Kids initiative to fight obesity.

BUZ, who have over the years struggled to secure sponsorship, will be looking for Zscore help them find sponsors, starting with the Afro Basket Zone6 Under-16 Championships.
