The team was selected at the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) inter-provincial cross country championships held at Alan Lowry Golf club in Redcliff recently.

Seasoned athlete Olivia Chitate who, won the 8km senior women’s race in Kwekwe, will carry the nation’s hopes together with Sithulisiwe Zhou who came second in the same category.

Others who are expected to do well are Enlita Ncube from Midlands who put up a commendable performance in Midlands in the 6km juniors category and also the battle-hardened Isaac Mpofu from Bulawayo who will take part in the seniors category.

The country will be represented in both female and male categories in junior and senior races.

NAAZ president Tendai Tagara said most of the athletes in the squad are battle-hardened, adding that he was expecting good performance from the athletes.

“All the athletes are expected to meet in Bulawayo tomorrow (today) before they proceed to Lesotho by bus and they will reach their destination on Thursday (tomorrow) and probably taking a rest on Friday,” he said.

“l am happy that most of the athletes are battle-hardened and some of the them have been representing the country in the last few years, so we expect them to perform better and l am very optimistic that they are going to perform well,” added Tagara.
