CAPE TOWN – Stormers rugby coach Allister Coetzee has expressed his concern following the ankle injury sustained by star lock Eben Etzebeth against the Boland Cavaliers at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

“We’re all a bit nervous about Eben Etzebeth’s ankle strain. He landed awkwardly at a lineout and will have a scan tonight.
“We saw last night that the Sharks picked up a few injuries too and it’s, sadly, something you can’t escape.
“On a positive note, it was great to see Andries Bekker get 60 minutes. Siya Kolisi and Jean de Villiers got 80 minutes and Joe Pietersen (another goalkicking option) and Groomie (Nic Groom) get 40 minutes too.”
Despite the injuries, Coetzee was delighted with his team’s nine-try, 57-0 win over the Cavaliers: “I was happy with the backline’s performance – mainly their running from depth and I thought the scrums went nicely too.
“I wasn’t overly happy with the lineout and there were still a few unforced errors – which, I guess, is natural for early matches.
“We scored nine tries and kept Boland scoreless – that was important and pleasing in itself and the amount of game time I have targeted for certain players was a positive for me too.”
