KWEKWE — A Kwekwe housebreaker, Qubekani Ndlovu, who had evaded police arrest for two years, ended his career in embarrassing style last Thursday after he wetted his pants following pronouncement of the verdict against him by provincial magistrate Taurai Manuwere.

Report by Blessed Mhlanga

Ndlovu (32) was slapped with a 12-year jail term for breaking into 17 houses in Kwekwe and Redcliff where he stole several electrical gadgets including laptops, plasma television screens and cellphones.

State counsel Vimbai Chinoda told the court that Ndlovu had been on the police wanted list for two years following a series of break-ins linked to him.

He was finally arrested on October 21 last year. As the court pronounced the sentence, Ndlovu wet his khaki prison garb.

The court, however, suspended two years of the sentence on condition he paid restitution of $10 000 for the stolen property and another three years on condition of good behaviour.

But this was not before Ndlovu had already wetted his prison uniform in disbelief.

He will serve an effective seven-year jail term.
