Judah Marwisa (36) of Sizinda Flats in Bulawayo has not been formally charged with culpable homicide following the death of Bongani Ncube, who was 25 years old.

On Tuesday, Bulawayo magistrate Merlyn Mutshina placed Marwisa off remand after the State refused to remand him further, saying it was still investigating the matter.

Mutshina advised Marwisa that the case would proceed by way of summons after the State completes its investigations.

The court heard that on December 17 last year at around 5pm, the late Ncube was cleaning the interior of the tractor-driven stockfeed mixing machine together with Onias Mpume.

Marwisa, who was the machine operator, came from outside without checking the interior for foreign objects and switched it on. Mpume managed to jump out of the machine when he heard it start, leaving Ncube inside.

The machine was switched off by Angus Sean York, who then discovered that Ncube had been killed by the rotating pedals of the machine.

Ncube’s body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospital for a postmortem and a report made to the police led to Marwisa’s arrest.
