Alice Marimbita (42), employed at Dr Everisto Nhende’s surgery in Bulawayo, pleaded not guilty to contravening Section 12 of the Dangerous Dug Act as read with Section 12 and 12 (1) (supply a part IV or preparation for the purposes of addiction), when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Takunda Witness  Mtetwa.

She was remanded to tomorrow for continuation of trial.

The prosecutor, Mazwi Goto, told the court that between May and December 2009 the complainant, Lee Anne Roberts, fell sick and went to the hospital.

She was diagnosed of depression by Matsika. She was then prescribed Pethidine a part IV drug for her condition.

The drug is only dispensed with a doctor’s prescription.

During the period she was undergoing treatment she was referred to Marimbita where she started to buy pethidine drugs for $10. However police later received information that Marimbita was unlawfully selling the drug leading to her arrest.
