NEWSDAY Manicaland reporter Obey Manayiti was yesterday detained at Mutare Central Police Station where he had gone to make a report following an incident in which he was allegedly accosted in the central business district and threatened with death by suspended Zanu PF provincial youth chairman Tawanda Mukodza.

According to Manayiti, Mukodza spotted him in the city and pursued him making the death threats. The reporter said he jumped into a taxi and fled before going to report the matter at the police station.

Upon arrival he said he was immediately arrested and charged with criminal insult after Mukodza had made an earlier report at the same station claiming the reporter had insulted him.

Efforts to obtain comment from the police were fruitless up to the time of going to print last night. Manayiti was still in police custody at the time.
