TRYSON Chimbetu has dedicated the month of March to events that will honour his late father Naison.

Report by Tawanda Marwizi

Naison died on March 6 2005 and his eldest son said he had lined up three events to celebrate the life of one of the founders of dendera music and Marxist Brothers original member.

“I will release an album in March to honour my late father. We are also organising an event to officially launch the album and then stage a commemorative gig for him,” said Tryson.

“I believe the effort I have put on the upcoming album will go some way in showing my fans how much I appreciate the route my father prepared for me musically.”

The 24-year-old musician said his success was founded on his late father’s mentorship.

Naison nurtured Tryson from 2002 when his son started on  a musical career. “He nurtured me in many ways besides in music. He sent me to school and gave me fatherly love. I have to remember him for all that.

“He died on the 6th, but we will be doing events throughout the month to honour his contribution to the family and the music industry at large.”

Turning to the new album, the musician promised the public a good release, but dismissed claims that he was set to compete against his cousin Sulumani.

“We are going to offer our best to our fans, but we are competing among ourselves as musicians from Chimbetu family. We are taking it from where our fathers left,” he said. Songs like Ndondo, Bhora mberi, Pahotera Godo and Simba have become sing-along tracks at most of his shows and are being complemented with a new dance called chirauro.

He will have a collaboration with superstar Oliver Mtukudzi on a song titled Pahotera. The song is aimed at marketing local hotels ahead of the United Nations World Tourism  General Assembly to be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia.

He said he would also engage the corporate world for sponsorship of the album launch which, he said, his cousin Sulumani would attend. Tryson has three albums — Marxist Revival, Bvamuroad and Nguva yaChimbetu — on which he featured the sungura maestro Alick Macheso.

The 24-year-old musician is known for giving his albums titles that take people down memory lane to the unforgettable times of the late Simon and Naison Chimbetu.
