Karemba said his party was targeting constituencies won by Zanu PF in the 2008 elections, including Zvimba North constituency held by legislator Ignatius Chombo.

“MDC-T wants to increase its seats from the current eight to at least 12 of the 18 in the province starting with Chombo’s Zvimba North,” Karemba said, adding MDC-T would also triumph in Zvimba East and West, Chegutu East, Hurungwe North and Magunje.

In Zvimba North, the MDC-T is likely to field national youth representative Abigail Sauti.

Chombo has in recent months been grappling to consolidate his support base by facilitating undocumented Mutorashanga villagers, mostly of foreign origin (so-called aliens), to get identity particulars and doling out footwear and clothes.

Sources also allege there is divisive political gamesmanship in Chegutu East where incumbent MP Webster Shamu, also Zanu PF national political commissar and Information minister, is facing stiff contest from provincial party chairman John Mafa who is eyeing the seat.
