CHINHOYI — Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo has suspended Chinhoyi Municipality Ward 11 councillor Tendai Musonza for allegedly attending a recent civic meeting wearing a T-shirt inscribed “Mugabe must go”.

Musonza yesterday confirmed his suspension.
“Indeed, I got the letter of suspension last Thursday,” said Musonza, who alleged the timing of the suspension was meant to frustrate his political ambitions as he intends to run for Chinhoyi urban parliamentary seat.
Part of the suspension letter (Ref X/4/34) dated February 12 signed by Chombo gleaned by NewsDay reads: “Following numerous reports of your indecent behaviour in conducting your duties as a councillor, I hereby in terms of Section 114 (1) of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15) suspend you from being a councillor for Chinhoyi Municipality, with immediate effect.”
During the suspension, Musonza would not be eligible to receive any remuneration from council.
Musonza was late last year ousted as works and planning committee chairperson after receiving a vote of no confidence from fellow councillors after attending a workshop at Town House wearing the “offensive”
T-shirt and consequently a damning report was made to the parent ministry leading to his suspension.
