Sibanda, of Munago village under Chief Mahlebadza, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to culpable homicide when he appeared before High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese yesterday.

The State heard that the deceased, Siphephetiwe Mpesi, had a misunderstanding with her husband Garai Mpanza on December 12, 2006.

Soon after the quarrel, Mpanza left the homestead and Sibanda approached her mother to inquire over the cause of the quarrel.

This did not go down well with her and she immediately ordered him to stay out of the matter.

In a fit of rage, Sibanda picked up a brick and struck her in the abdomen causing her internal injuries which later led to her death.

In his defence, Sibanda told the court that he never intended to kill his mother. The State, led by Shepherd Mafa conceded to the fact that Sibanda was negligent in his actions.

Wilfred Mehlo appeared for Sibanda.
