GOKWE — A man from Manyonga village allegedly fatally struck his grandmother with a machete after she tried to stop him from eating groundnuts she was shelling at her home in December last year. REPORT BY SILAS NKALA STAFF REPORTER

The heinous act was heard by Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja on Tuesday when Knowledge Masava (22) appeared before him facing charges of murdering his grandmother Kaukwe Gonese (73).

Masava was remanded in custody to February 12 and was advised to apply to the High Court for bail.

Prosecutor Mbonisi Ncube told the court that on December 4 last year, Gonese was shelling groundnuts at her home when her grandson Masava took some of the groundnuts and ate them.

This allegedly did not go down well with Gonese who, according to the State, demanded that Masava should stop eating the nuts.

It is then that Masava allegedly took a machete and struck his grandmother in the head.

She is said to have sustained a deep cut and was found lying dead in her bedroom the following day.

A report was made to the police leading to Masava’s arrest.
