Econet is now demanding interest at the rate of 4% per month from January 24 2011 to the date of full payment, in addition to an order that stand number 99 Reitfonten measuring 5 196m² held by Irene Makamba under deed of transfer 431/05 be declared executable.

According to papers filed at the High Court, Irene and Tawanda Makamba were cited together with their companies Blueridge Spar (Private) Limited and I Makamba Family Investments listed as first and second respondents.

In its declaration, the mobile telecommunications service provider said it entered into an agreement with Blueridge Spar four years ago to supply airtime which was to be paid on a monthly basis.

“On the 25th January 2009, the 1st defendant (Blueridge Spar), as represented by Irene and Tawanda Makamba, applied for and was granted by the plaintiff a credit facility in terms of which the plaintiff would supply to the defendant airtime on credit,” reads part of the declaration.

It is understood that the terms of the facility were that all credit given would be settled within 15 days of any monthly statement sent out by Econet Wireless and that interest would accumulate at 4% per month.

Econet said as security for the fulfillment of its obligations, Blueridge Spar registered a mortgage bond of the Reitfontein property in favour of plaintiff.

The mobile service provider said it sent out a statement on November 5 2012 demanding payment to no avail.

“Wherefore plaintiff prays as against the defendants jointly the one paying the other to be absolved for judgment in the sum of $149 240,” reads the summons.

Irene is reportedly married to exiled businessman and former Zanu PF MP for Mt Darwin James Makamba.
